Amar Ujala was launched in Agra in 1948 as a four-page paper with an initial circulation of roughly 2,500 copies, with an objective its publishers described as promoting social awakening in a newly independent India. The paper expanded steadily over subsequent decades, eventually relocating its headquarters to Noida and growing into a multi-edition regional network. The company was incorporated as Amar Ujala Limited in 2001.
