The Baraboo News Republic is a local newspaper serving Baraboo, Wisconsin, and surrounding Sauk County, published as part of the WiscNews group under Capital Newspapers.
The paper's predecessor, the Baraboo Republic, began publishing February 18, 1855. Ownership of the modern News Republic passed through the Lavine Newspaper Group before Lee Enterprises and Madison Newspapers, Inc. jointly acquired it in 2000 as part of a larger purchase of Independent Media Group's Wisconsin and Nebraska newspapers. It is now managed under Capital Newspapers (Madison Newspapers, Inc.), a partnership between Lee Enterprises and The Capital Times Company.
The paper covers Sauk County government, schools, sports, and community life, with a digitized archive of nearly 600,000 pages dating to 1894 available through Newspapers.com and microfilm held at the Baraboo Public Library.
Content is published in print and online at wiscnews.com, alongside sister publications the Portage Daily Register and the Wisconsin Dells Events.
