The Bhutan Data Sharing Platform (data.gov.bt) is the Royal Government of Bhutan's official open data portal, providing public access to government datasets from across Bhutanese ministries and agencies. It is managed by the Government Technology (GovTech) Agency of Bhutan and is designed to promote transparency, facilitate data-driven decision-making, and support innovation by making government data openly available to citizens, researchers, and businesses.
The platform is part of Bhutan's broader digital transformation agenda. The Royal Government of Bhutan has made open data and e-government priorities, with Bhutan consistently improving its scores on the UN e-Government Development Index. The GovTech Agency—established to harness technology for government efficiency and citizen services—is the institutional home of the platform and has engaged international consultants and vendors to develop and maintain the data-sharing infrastructure.
The platform hosts datasets from multiple government ministries and agencies across sectors including agriculture, economy, health, education, environment, and infrastructure. Datasets are made available in standardized formats, supporting reuse and integration. The portal is part of a wider national data governance framework that also includes the National Data Exchange (NDE), a government interoperability platform, and the Bhutan National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
The platform is freely accessible at data.gov.bt. Users can discover, preview, and download datasets without requiring registration. The platform follows open data principles aligned with international standards.
