Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media (FIU) - founding dean, within CARTA
Brian Schriner is dean of the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University, a position he has held since being appointed dean of the College of Architecture + The Arts in 2009; the college was renamed CARTA in 2016 after FIU's School of Journalism and Mass Communication was integrated into it. Under his leadership, CARTA established the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media, funded by a naming gift from Lee and Gita Caplin, along with the Immersive Studio for Altered Reality (iSTAR) and the school's Caplin News and Caplin News En Espanol student-reporting operations, which include a working news bureau in Washington, D.C. Schriner has secured close to $100 million in philanthropic and auxiliary support for the college, nearly doubled its faculty, and grown enrollment by more than 200 percent. He holds degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Miami and has been named FIU Instructor of the Year.
