Use of DataThe Carletonian founded in 1877 is a weekly student-run newspaper and digital news site published during the school year at Carleton University in Northfield, Minnesota. Though the paper began as a college literary journal, it did include news. Over time, it evolved into a newspaper.
The earlier versions of the paper, from the 1930s through the 50s, The paper’s voice took on gentle, playful tone. The editors wrote that the paper bore “malice toward none.” However, by the 1960s, the tone became more combative, with the editors proclaiming “the object of a campus paper is to make people mad.”
Today, the students see that the paper’s challenge is to remain relevant in a digital world.
