Carolyn Fox is executive editor of the Maine Trust for Local News, which publishes the Kennebec Journal, Morning Sentinel, Portland Press Herald, Sun Journal and 15 weekly newspapers across Maine, a role she began in September 2024. A native of San Diego, she holds a bachelor's degree in writing, literature and publishing from Emerson College and a master's degree in print and online journalism with an emphasis on public policy from American University. She began her digital journalism career at National Geographic, where she developed content strategy for its Travel website and blog and later served as digital subject-matter expert, appearing on the Today Show, CNN and BBC Radio. She then joined NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune in New Orleans as director of content, leading a team of more than 40 journalists covering metro New Orleans news, the Louisiana legislature and regional culture. She subsequently became managing editor of the Tampa Bay Times, managing an award-winning team of more than 50 journalists and launching NOLA Studios-style video and podcast production, before being hired by the Maine Trust as its first newsroom leadership hire since the National Trust for Local News acquired the Portland Press Herald and its affiliated papers from former owner Reade Brower.
