Chesterton, Indiana (print, defunct)
The Chesterton Tribune was a newspaper covering Chesterton and the Duneland School District in Porter County, Indiana, which ceased publication for good on January 23, 2025.
The paper's origins trace to October 1882, launched by W.W. Mikels; Arthur J. Bowser relaunched it in 1884 and the title stabilized as the Chesterton Tribune by 1897. The Canright family purchased the paper in 1928 and converted it to a daily in 1961, adopting offset printing in 1970. Following the deaths of longtime publishers Warren H. and Elizabeth Canright, the paper ceased its print edition on December 30, 2020. It was revived in 2021 as a twice-weekly paper by Don Hurd of the Hoosier Media Group, but Hoosier Media Group cited insufficient advertiser support when it published its final edition on January 23, 2025.
Over more than 140 years, the paper covered Chesterton, Porter, and Burns Harbor municipal government, schools, and community news, including the local steel industry and environmental issues around the Indiana Dunes.
The paper is no longer publishing; its historical archive was previously accessible at chestertontribune.com.
