China Daily is China's national English-language daily newspaper, state-run and operating under the supervision of the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party.
China Daily was officially established in June 1981, after a one-month trial, becoming the first English-language newspaper published in the People's Republic of China. It expanded internationally with a Hong Kong edition in 1997, a United States edition in 2009, and European and African editions in 2010 and 2012 respectively, followed by a Global Edition launched January 2, 2019.
China Daily covers domestic and international news and publishes the supplement China Watch, distributed as a paid insert in newspapers in more than 20 countries; several Western newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, discontinued carrying China Watch amid scrutiny of the arrangement. The paper is also a member of the Asia News Network.
China Daily is available through print circulation, reported at roughly 500,000 copies including overseas distribution, and online at chinadaily.com.cn along with mobile apps.
