Sir David Jeremy Darroch is a British business executive who served as chief executive of Sky from December 2007 to January 2021, and as executive chairman through the rest of 2021. Born in Alnwick, Northumberland, he holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Hull. He worked at Procter & Gamble for twelve years from 1988, eventually becoming European finance director of its healthcare business, then at DSG Dixons Group, where he became finance director. Darroch joined Sky as chief financial officer in August 2004 and became CEO in December 2007. During his tenure, Sky grew from a UK satellite broadcaster into Europe's largest multi-platform TV provider with nearly 24 million customers following its 2014 acquisitions of Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland, and was sold to Comcast in 2018. He stepped down as CEO in January 2021, succeeded by Dana Strong, and served as executive chairman through the rest of the year before becoming an advisor to the company. Darroch was knighted in the 2023 Birthday Honours for services to business, charity, and sustainability. He was appointed chair of the National Oceanography Centre in October 2022, became a non-executive director of Reckitt plc in November 2022 and its chair in May 2024, and joined the board of The Walt Disney Company as a director in 2024. He was previously senior independent director of Burberry Group plc and a non-executive director of Marks and Spencer plc.
