Michael B.G. Froman, born August 20, 1962, is president of the Council on Foreign Relations, a role he assumed in March 2023, succeeding Richard N. Haass. He served in President Barack Obama's cabinet as U.S. Trade Representative from June 2013 to January 2017, leading the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement and negotiations toward the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and previously served as Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs from 2009 to 2013, acting as the U.S. sherpa for G7, G8, and G20 summits. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at Citigroup from 1999 to 2009, including chief executive officer of its international insurance business and chief operating officer of its alternative investments business, and served in the Clinton administration at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the White House National Security and Economic Councils. In April 2018, he joined Mastercard as vice chairman and president, strategic growth, and in September 2018 became a director of The Walt Disney Company, a position he continues to hold. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School, a D.Phil. in international relations from Oxford University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
