Lauren Gustus is currently executive editor at The Salt Lake Tribune. Gustus graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University, earning a B.A. in organizational communications, with an emphasis in political science.
Gustus's career path showcases a commitment to the evolution of journalism. Her journey began in 2002 with internship for the Los Angeles Daily News. Following this, she served for two years as assistant editor at The Salt Lake Tribune. Gustus's then moved to McClatchy. She worked there three years before becoming west region editor, In that capacity, she managed staffing, budgeting, professional development, and news operations across 10 news organizations in Idaho, Washington, and California. Her work at McClatchy's flagship, The Sacramento Bee, resulted in growth in their digital audience.
Notably, Gustus worked a 16-year tenure at Gannett USA Today Network. Her work there encompassed various aspects of media, navigating journalism's ever-changing landscape. In her current role as Salt Lake Tribune's executive editor, Gustus is leading the first major metropolitan news organization into nonprofit status. She also acts as a coach in the Poynter Institute’s Media Transformation Challenge.
