James 'Jim' Hoggan (born 1946) is a public relations executive and co-founder of DeSmog, a journalism organization focused on investigating and reporting misinformation campaigns opposing climate science and action. He began his public relations career in the 1970s and is president of James Hoggan & Associates, a Vancouver-based PR firm. Hoggan co-founded DeSmogBlog in January 2006 with seed funding from John Lefebvre, former president of the online transaction company NETeller; the site's early writers included science writer Richard Littlemore and journalist Ross Gelbspan. In 2013, Hoggan founded DeSmog Canada, a non-profit news magazine with the same mission. He is the author, with Richard Littlemore, of Climate Cover-Up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming (2009), as well as Do the Right Thing: PR Tips for a Skeptical Public (2009) and I'm Right and You're an Idiot: The Toxic State of Public Discourse and How to Clean it Up (2016). Hoggan has served as board chair of the David Suzuki Foundation, a Canadian environmental organization, and as a trustee of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education. He received a 2003 Silver Anvil award from the Public Relations Society of America, and DeSmogBlog received a Canadian Public Relations Society Communication Leadership award in 2007 and was named one of Time magazine's 'Best Blogs of 2011.'
