The American Prospect - Writing Fellow
Emma Janssen is a writing fellow at The American Prospect, where she reports on U.S. politics, anti-poverty policy, health, and political power. She graduated from the University of Chicago in June 2024 with a degree in Fundamentals: Issues and Texts (political philosophy) and a minor in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, earning both College and departmental honors as a first-generation college student. Before joining the Prospect, she edited for The Chicago Maroon and freelanced for the Hyde Park Herald, and interned at the Miami Herald, where she wrote about gentrification, the economy, and community members who had died. She has also written for the Pulitzer Center and The Offing. She was awarded a grant from the Pulitzer Center and the University of Chicago to report on the Kurdish diaspora in the Netherlands and western Europe.
