Jerusalem, Israel
The Jerusalem Post is an English-language Israeli broadsheet newspaper based in Jerusalem, widely regarded as the leading English-language media outlet in Israel and the Jewish world. It is described as politically center or center-right.
The paper was founded December 1, 1932, during the British Mandate of Palestine, by American-born journalist Gershon Agron as The Palestine Post, formed through a merger with the earlier Palestine Bulletin. It was renamed The Jerusalem Post in 1950, two years after Israeli statehood. Until 1989 it held a liberal or left-of-center editorial orientation supportive of the Labor Party; that year it was purchased by Hollinger Inc. under Conrad Black, prompting a rightward shift and the resignation of journalists who went on to found the left-leaning Jerusalem Report, later acquired by the Post. Hollinger sold the paper on November 16, 2004, to Mirkaei Tikshoret Ltd., a Tel Aviv-based media firm controlled by investor Eli Azur, who also acquired the newspaper Maariv in 2014. Zvika Klein became editor-in-chief in December 2023, succeeding Avi Mayer, who had succeeded longtime editor Yaakov Katz earlier that year.
