Biography

Maria Elena (Mel) Lagomasino is CEO and managing partner of WE Family Offices, a global family office serving ultra-high-net-worth families, a position she has held since March 2013. She began her banking career at Citibank in 1977 and joined Chase Manhattan Private Bank in 1983, becoming head of Chase's worldwide private banking business in 1997. Following the JP Morgan-Chase merger, she served as chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Private Bank from 2001 to 2005, overseeing an institution with more than $300 billion in client assets. She then served as CEO of GenSpring Family Offices from November 2005 to October 2012, before founding WE Family Offices. Lagomasino has served as a director of The Walt Disney Company and as a director of The Coca-Cola Company since 2008, serving as its lead independent director from April 2019 to July 2024. She is a trustee of Carnegie Corporation of New York and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In September 2006, President George W. Bush appointed her to help secure private-sector funds for disaster relief in Central America and to serve on the State Department's Advisory Board on Transformational Diplomacy. Born in Cuba, Lagomasino left the country with her family in 1960. She is a graduate of Manhattanville College with graduate degrees from Columbia University and Fordham University.
