Maysville, Kentucky, USA
The Ledger Independent is a daily newspaper based in Maysville, Kentucky, covering a seven-county area including Bracken, Mason, Fleming, Lewis and Robertson counties in Kentucky and Adams and Brown counties in Ohio.
The paper was formed October 1, 1968, when the Gadsden (Alabama) Times Publishing Corporation simultaneously bought Maysville's two competing dailies, The Public Ledger (founded 1892) and The Daily Independent (founded 1907 as the Mason Independent), and merged them under the newly chartered Maysville Publishing Corporation. Howard Publications, Inc. purchased the paper in 1980, and Lee Enterprises acquired it in 2002, building a new production facility on Limestone Street in Maysville in 2004. In February 2018, Lee Enterprises sold The Ledger Independent to Champion Media, LLC, headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina.
