Maariv is a Hebrew-language daily newspaper published in Israel, the fourth-largest by readership.
Maariv is owned by Eli Azur, an Israeli businessman, through his media company Mirkaei Tikshoret, which also owns The Jerusalem Post, the Walla! internet portal, and radio stations in Israel.
Founded in 1948 by former Yediot Aharonot journalists led by Dr. Ezriel Carlebach. The Nimrodi family held a controlling stake for many years. After a period of financial distress and several changes in ownership, Eli Azur purchased the Maariv brand in May 2014 and merged it with his existing weekend magazine Sof Hashavua.
