William "Bill" Marcil Jr. is the fifth generation of his family to lead The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, the flagship newspaper of Forum Communications Company. Born William Christ Marcil Jr. in Fargo, North Dakota, he attended Shanley High School and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He began working at The Forum in 1991, and in 2010 succeeded his father, Bill Marcil Sr., as the newspaper's publisher. In 2017 he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Forum Communications Company while continuing as publisher of The Forum, and he later became the company's president and chief executive officer, overseeing its newspapers, broadcast stations, commercial printing operations and digital brands across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. He also leads Gen7 Investments, the company's diversified investment arm, which manages a portfolio spanning consumer goods, media companies and brand agencies. Marcil has served on numerous community boards, including the Fargo Moorhead Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, Trollwood Performing Arts School, the Rourke Art Museum and the Plains Art Museum, as well as the William and Jane Marcil Family Foundation.
