Robin McKinney Martin owns The Santa Fe New Mexican, which she took over from her late father, editor and publisher Robert M. McKinney, upon his death in 2001. She reacquired The Taos News from Gannett in 1978 and also owns the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle and the Raton Comet. Martin began her newspaper career as a teenage advertising runner for The New Mexican and worked her way up through entry-level positions, including as editor of the paper's Spanish-language page. She graduated from Santa Fe Preparatory School and earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Princeton University, later studying business at the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management and journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Martin serves on the boards of the Associated Press and Page Cooperative, a nonprofit newsprint and supplies purchasing collective for small and medium-sized newspapers, and was inducted into the New Mexico Press Association's Hall of Fame.
