UMass Amherst's Journalism Department, part of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, offers a Journalism major with specializations in broadcast journalism, sports journalism, and public relations.
The curriculum combines the academic study of journalism history, law, ethics, and media criticism with practice in newswriting, reporting, and multimedia journalism. The department serves nearly 350 majors and includes faculty who have won the Pulitzer Prize and the Freedom Forum Journalism Teacher of the Year Award.
The department is housed in the Integrative Learning Center, one of the newer buildings on the UMass Amherst campus.

Kathy Roberts Forde: Professor of journalism history and literary journalism who chaired the department after joining in 2014.
The Massachusetts Daily Collegian is the university's student newspaper; Amherst Wire, a digital magazine, was founded by alumnus Eric Athas.
