The school offers degree programs in Multimedia Journalism, Multiplatform Production, and Strategic Communication across three academic departments, serving more than 400 students and 24 faculty members.
The school operates WEAA-FM, the university's NPR affiliate radio station, as a learning lab for students, and has partnered with the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting, The Wall Street Journal, and The Atlantic on student training workshops. In April 2020, the school earned ACEJMC accreditation, becoming only the fifth historically Black college or university journalism program to do so, and the second ACEJMC-accredited program in Maryland after the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
The School of Global Journalism and Communication was created in July 2013 at Morgan State University, founded in 1867. DeWayne Wickham, a former USA Today columnist and founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists, served as founding dean until 2021.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Jones: Dean since August 1, 2021, the school's second dean, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who previously chaired the Department of Multimedia Journalism and served more than 25 years on the ACEJMC accrediting council.
