NBC News is the news division of the NBC broadcast television network, operating under the NBCUniversal News Group, a unit of NBCUniversal (currently a Comcast subsidiary). It produces NBC Nightly News, Today, Meet the Press and Dateline, and oversees NBC News Digital and the Spanish-language Noticias Telemundo.
NBC aired the first regularly scheduled news program in American broadcast television history on Feb. 21, 1940. The division has been based at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York since its inception. In October 2025, NBCUniversal completed the separation of most of its cable networks, including MSNBC and CNBC, into a new company, Versant, removing them from NBC News' direct portfolio. On June 29, 2026, Comcast announced it would spin off NBCUniversal, including NBC News, along with European broadcaster Sky, into a new independent publicly traded media company; Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh is slated to lead the new NBCUniversal, with the separation expected to complete in about a year.
Aired the first Democratic presidential primary debate of the 2020 cycle (June 26-27, 2019) and the third Republican presidential primary debate of the 2024 cycle (Nov. 8, 2023).
