NordStar Capital LP is a Toronto-based private investment firm that took Torstar Corporation, publisher of the Toronto Star, private in 2020.
NordStar was formed by Jordan Bitove and Paul Rivett, who each held 50 percent ownership. Following a dispute between the two, an arbitrator's decision finalized February 8, 2023, gave Jordan Bitove the Toronto Star and Metroland Media Group, while Paul Rivett received the smaller properties iPolitics and Queen's Park Briefing.
NordStar acquired Torstar Corporation for approximately $60 million in 2020, taking the publicly traded company private and ending the Atkinson Foundation trustee families' ownership dating to 1958.
