Patrick Dolan is a broadcast journalist and media executive who owns and publishes Newsday, Long Island's primary daily newspaper. The son of Cablevision founder Charles Dolan, he joined News 12 Long Island as a special-projects producer when the hyper-local news network launched in 1986, was promoted to news director in 1991, and became president of News 12 Networks in 2002, a role he continued to hold. In 2016, Dolan led an investment group that acquired a 75 percent majority stake in Newsday Media Group from Altice USA, becoming president of Newsday Media while continuing to lead News 12; he acquired the remaining shares in 2018 to become sole owner of Newsday, which was founded in 1940 and has won 19 Pulitzer Prizes. His own reporting has been recognized by the Press Club of Long Island, the Radio Television Digital News Association, the New York Associated Press, New York Festivals, and the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has also served on the boards of Cablevision Systems and AMC Networks.
