Biography

George Peretz is a King's Counsel at Monckton Chambers in London and a barrister-at-law in Ireland, specializing in public law, competition and state aid, pharmaceuticals, VAT and customs, and trade regulation, much of it connected to the UK's relationship with EU law. He has argued cases in the UK Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and the Court of Justice of the EU, and served for many years on the Attorney General's panel of counsel advising UK government departments and ministers; he remains on the Welsh Government's panel. Alongside his legal practice, Peretz is a director of openDemocracy, an independent digital media and journalism outlet, and writes regularly on law and politics for outlets including Prospect Magazine and openDemocracy, as well as his own Substack newsletter, The Political Lawyer, which focuses on regulation, public law, trade, and EU-related issues from a broadly Labour political perspective.
