Perry A. Sook, born 1958, is the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Nexstar Media Group, which he built starting in 1996 with a single local television station, WYOU in Scranton, Pennsylvania, into the largest owner of local television stations in the United States. Under his leadership, Nexstar completed the $7.1 billion acquisition of Tribune Media and the $4.6 billion acquisition of Media General, and added holdings including The Hill, The CW television network, and NewsNation. In October 2025, Nexstar's board extended Sook's employment agreement through March 2029; he is the company's third-largest shareholder. In August 2025, Sook announced a pending merger with Tegna Inc. Before founding Nexstar, he was president and CEO of Seaway Communications and a principal of Superior Communication Group, which was sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 1995; he also spent five years with Cox Broadcasting and briefly worked as a television news anchor at a CBS affiliate in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He serves as chairman of the joint board of directors of the National Association of Broadcasters.
