Traces to the Pontiac Sentinel, a weekly begun in 1857, and the Pontiac Weekly Leader, which arrived in 1880; the weekly became a daily in 1896. GateHouse Media, the paper's former owner, purchased roughly 160 daily and weekly newspapers from Hollinger Inc. in 1997. GateHouse also publishes two weekly newspapers in the Daily Leader's coverage area: the Home Times of Flanagan, and The Blade of Fairbury.
