Erin Reed is an independent journalist and LGBTQ+ rights activist. Her TikTok page breaks LGBTQ+ news to around 450,000 followers. She publishes a newsletter and Substack called Erin In the Morning, where she tracks transgender-related legislation. Reed has been cited in stories in the New York Times, Associated Press, and the Washington Post. Reed’s “Anti-Trans Risk Assessment” map highlights the U.S. states with the most restrictions to access to transgender healthcare, and matters such as anti-drag laws and bathroom restrictions. This project, as well as a map of clinics providing hormone replacement therapy, earned Reed the NLGJA (Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists) 2024 Jeanne Córdova Award.
