Biography

Daniel Sforza joined The Record in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1994 as a municipal reporter and went on to cover transportation as a specialty writer before moving into editing, serving successively as assignment editor, metro editor overseeing investigations, managing editor, and investigative editor. He was named executive editor of The Record and NorthJersey.com in 2018, a role in which he also served as Gannett's New Jersey state editor overseeing The Daily Record and the New Jersey Herald. Alongside his newsroom career, Sforza taught journalism at Ramapo College of New Jersey from 1997 to 2020. He stepped down as executive editor of The Record in September 2025 after nearly three decades at the paper, and that month joined The New York Times as a weekend editor on the National desk. He holds a B.A. in English literature from Villanova University.
