New York, New York, USA
Tablet is a daily online magazine of Jewish news, ideas and culture, published by the nonprofit Nextbook Inc. and based in New York City.
Tablet was founded in June 2009 by editor-in-chief Alana Newhouse, former culture editor at The Forward, as a rebranded and news-focused successor to Nextbook.org, a web magazine that had featured a daily cultural digest and recommended books since the Nextbook foundation's founding. Tablet has won National Magazine Awards, including for General Excellence. After the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in October 2018, Newhouse and the magazine's editorial staff traveled to Pittsburgh to report on the shooting and its aftermath. Media critics including The New York Observer and scholar Steven Windmueller have described Tablet's editorial line as having shifted rightward since around the 2014 Gaza war, and it hired several editors sympathetic to Trump administration policies in 2022.
