The Arctic Sounder is a newspaper serving the Northwest Arctic Borough and the North Slope Borough of Alaska, published from Kotzebue and Anchorage. It is a publication of the Anchorage Daily News.
The Arctic Sounder began publication in 1986. It was published for years by Alaska Newspapers, Inc. (ANI), a subsidiary of the Calista Corporation, an Alaska Native regional corporation, until ANI dissolved in 2011 and sold the paper, along with the Bristol Bay Times and the Dutch Harbor Fisherman, to new publishers Jason Evans and Kiana Peacock's Alaska Media, LLC. In April 2019, Evans sold the Arctic Sounder, the Bristol Bay Times/Dutch Harbor Fisherman and the Homer Tribune to the owners of the Anchorage Daily News, the Binkley Company, which had also acquired the Anchorage Daily News out of bankruptcy in September 2017.
