Boston Globe Rhode Island is a regional news bureau of The Boston Globe based in Providence, covering politics, business, arts, crime, education, and health across Rhode Island.
The Globe launched Globe Rhode Island in the summer of 2019, hiring several journalists with prior experience at the Providence Journal, including Amanda Milkovits, Edward Fitzpatrick, and Maria Caporizzo, alongside former WPRI-TV reporter Dan McGowan. The initiative was intended to create a separate, locally identified brand rather than a satellite office, following cuts at the Providence Journal after its acquisition by a hedge fund-backed chain. The bureau's Rhode Map newsletter and Rhode Island Report podcast, launched in 2021, became key parts of its offering, and the team has won dozens of Rhode Island Press Association awards in subsequent years.
Globe Rhode Island publishes daily news coverage, the Rhode Map morning newsletter, an RI Food & Dining section, and the weekly Rhode Island Report podcast hosted by reporter Edward Fitzpatrick.
Content is available at bostonglobe.com/metro/new-england/rhode-island as part of a Boston Globe digital subscription, with the Rhode Map newsletter available separately.
