The Forecaster is a digital-only regional news publication covering southern Maine, available through the Portland Press Herald website. It is published by the Maine Trust for Local News.
The Falmouth Forecaster launched in Falmouth, Maine, in 1986, the first of what grew into several editions -- Northern, Southern, Coastal Journal Edition and, until a 2019 merger, a separate Mid-Coast Forecaster. In 2012, the paper partnered with the Bangor Daily News on shared news-gathering. Formerly owned by MaineToday Media, it was sold to the Maine Trust for Local News in August 2023. In March 2025, the trust discontinued print for all Forecaster editions, moving entirely to digital publication with no reporting-position cuts; only the Northern and Portland editions remain active, with the Southern and Coastal Journal editions folded into sister Mainely Media weeklies.
At its peak the Forecaster group's combined print circulation across four editions was approximately 70,000 copies weekly.
