The Yorkshire Post is a print and online daily published in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. It gained prominence in 1936 for breaking the story of King Edward VIII’s abdication.
Founded in 1754, Yorkshire Post is one of the oldest newspapers in the United Kingdom. It delivers a wide range of news including politics, sports, entertainment and lifestyle.
Clarence K. Berry and family acquired Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post in 1939. The paper prospered under the control of the Berry family. The group was acquired by the Westminster Press, a subsidiary of Pearson PLC.
Johnston Press acquired Yorkshire Post in 2002, and operated it until 2018 when it ran into financial trouble.
In November 2018, JPIMedia, formed by the bondholders of Johnston Press, took control of Yorkshire Post. In 2021 National World PLC acquired JPI Media’s properties, including Yorkshire Post.
